relay (2021 - ongoing)
A series of reflections on how we communicate the impermeable codex of our most vulnerable needs for searching, rescue, and the proximity of others.
Dots and dashes for ease of transmission once made the world smaller than the miles tread by horses. Tapped rhythms on metal translated into patterns on endless streams of paper. Audible sequences of brevity and lasting, a light on a ship turned off and on like a lighthouse glow lost in the storm.
These codes made of light-reflective material replace self-reflective words of waning, distress, and doubt amidst calls of help, healing, and recovery.
